(1960 – 1962)

Checkmate was an American detective series which was created by Eric Ambler, the well known crime and espionage author. The 70 sixty-minute episodes ran from 1960 – 1962 on CBS.

Don Corey played by Anthony George and his younger partner Jed Sills played by Doug McClure ran a detective agency named Checkmate in San Francisco. Don was the chief of the agency.

The two were assisted by a British criminologist and on-time Oxford professor Dr. Carl Hyatt played by Sebastian Cabot.

The three worked out of Corey’s beautiful Nob Hill apartment which had a great view of the city.

The way the agency attacked crime made this agency different than others because the aim was helping those in danger by attempting to prevent crimes before they occurred.
