The Mask was the first one hour series in which two brothers called Walter and Peter Guilfoyle were lawyers and did their own investigations. Walter and Peter Guilfoyle were played by Gary Merrill and William Prince. The series had a continuing character.

Each episode included a homicide and after the series became generally known, the image as lawyers was dumped down and the two became just another pair of private eyes, based on Larka’s Television’s Private Eye.

As the show was too expensive to produce and a sponsor wasn’t found it was cancelled after just four months. The show was produced by Robert Stevens and Halsted Welles.
